Postdoc on Functional Forest Ecology under Global Change

Start date: 01.12.2024, Fixed for a period of three years

  • Location

Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences, Department of Biology
Universität Hamburg
Ohnhorststraße 18

  • Missions

Duties include teaching and research in the respective department or institute. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications as well as acquire teaching experience. These duties are intended to promote academic achievement. Therefore, at least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the associate’s own academic work.
The overall mission of the professorship for Functional Forest Ecology is to understand how human-accelerated environmental change affects biogeochemical cycles and biodiversity of forests and other ecosystems of major C sink strength. To explore this complex task, we focus mostly on belowground functions and processes which are decisive for ecosystem C storage and climate feedbacks. The oered position will complement our current research foci by developing a strong research agenda on rhizosphere ecology and/or ecophysiology of forests under climate change. The University of Hamburg provides for this an inspiring, dynamic, and international academic environment and an outstanding platform for the career development of postdoctoral researchers.

  • Skills

A university degree in a relevant field, plus doctorate.
A university degree in a relevant field, i.e., Biology, Environmental Sciences or Geosciences. Strong skills in ecophysiology, mycorrhizal or rhizosphere ecology, and/or exploration of large data sets are a plus. Team-orientation and interest in conducting interdisciplinary research as well as being proactive are a must. Willingness for field work and research stays abroad. Excellent German and English communication skills (spoken and written) are required.
