Post-doctoral position in functional and evolutionary ecology

Post-doctoral position in functional and evolutionary ecology - Assessing ecological and evolutionary processes in forests with assisted gene flow to rationalize management options

  • Location

The post-doctorate will be based at INRAE Research Unit on Mediterranean Forest Ecology (URFM, Avignon, France)

  • Missions

The post-doctorate will be responsible for four tasks:

-parametrize and evaluate the PhorEau model for various Abies species based on existing data and literature values. This requires exploring relevant traits coordination at the inter vs intraspecific level for Abies;
-predict how the abiotic environment and competition dynamically shape selection on vigor and sensitivity traits at the scale of stand development;
-predict how cross-species gene flow affect competition and stand development, and consequently how it changes selection;
-extend the PhorEau model with a quantitative genetic module to predict the long-term eco-evolutionary consequences of cross-species gene flow.

Skills
-PhD in functional or evolutionary ecology with interest in quantitative genetics and plant science; or PhD in plant breeding with experience on ecophysiological traits.
-Interest for evolutionary and ecological modelling
-Experience on forest genetics, forest ecology, or forestry will be a plus.
-Clear communication in English in both spoken and written form.
