Forest Expert for cooperation projects and knowledge exchange support

  • Mission

-Implement and coordinate activities in national and EU projects related to the sustainable management of planted forests including knowledge exchange on a large set of topics but with a focus on risk management (with a special emphasis on biotic risks and quarantining of organisms).
-Contribute to improve sustainable management, intensification, and the adaptive capacity of planted forest by producing reports, conducting data analysis and popularisation of new knowledge and information.
-Analyse the legal constraints and implications on topics such as biotic risk management in forest.
-Use and improve existing models and simulation tools for predicting forest damage and growth or productivity at the stand or landscape level in cases studies and living labs and contribute to the maintenance of online databases.
-Explain and analyse management options to better cope with climate change and the evolution of biotic threats including different technical and economical approaches.
-Disseminate results from the IEFC network through events, scientific publications, guidelines, and professional journals.

  • Skills

_MSc, Forest engineer or higher university degree (or a comparable qualification) in an appropriate field.
_Good knowledge in planted forest management and economics, forest risk management and forest ecology.
_Good understanding the network of socio-economic, institutional, associative, research and financial stakeholders involved in the forestry and wood industry.
_Fluency in English is required. Good knowledge in any other language of the network is an asset (French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, etc).
_Solid experience in synthesis writing, and popularising scientific knowledge will be a plus.
_Analytical skills in gathering and interpreting data and information.
_Knowledge of the use of the R and SQL programming language would be an asset.
