Evergreen Prize for Innovation

Announcement that applications for the new Evergreen Prize for Innovation, worth €300,000, are open until 15 December.

A distinguished jury will select the five finalist research teams who will be invited to Vienna to showcase their work in May 2025. The jury includes

  1. Kathy Abusow President and CEO, Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI)
  2. Sampsa Auvinen, Timber Industry Board Professional
  3. Prof. Josef Füssl, Head of the Research Unit Structural Simulation and Timber Engineering, Technical University Vienna
  4. Prof. Andreja Kutnar, Professor for Wood Science at University of Primorska in Koper and Director of InnoRenew CoE
  5. Prof. Alfred Teischinger, Professor for Wood Technology at Boku University, Vienna (retired)

These experts look forward to receiving applications from researchers focused on developing new materials and products derived from wood, forest biomass, or reclaimed timber. With the first half of our application period (October 15 to December 15) nearly complete, we invite you to submit your application on our website by December 15 at 23:59 CET.

Key information:

  • Finalist Presentations: The five selected teams (two members per team) will present their research on May 26 at TU Wien at first in front of our jury. In the evening, they will have the opportunity to pitch their projects to an audience of 800 international wood and forestry professionals at Vienna City Hall.
  • Award: The winning team will receive €300,000, distributed over three years, to advance their research.
  • Networking Opportunity: This event provides a unique platform to connect with potential research partners, investors, and industry leaders from around the world.
