PhD Thesis – From natural wood to architectured material

From natural wood to architectured material: microstructure and fracture behaviour

  • Location

3SR Laboratory at Université Grenoble Alpes

  • Missions

This thesis aims to unravel the fundamental relationships between the material’s architectured microstructure, its mechanical properties, and its fracture behavior, in order to master its design and ensure its reliability in service. The project focuses particularly on the evolution of cell walls, fiber interfaces, residual porosity, and crack paths.

  • Skills

-Master’s degree or engineering school in mechanics, materials science, or applied physics;
-interest in instrumented experimentation;
-enthusiasm for fracture mechanics, thermo- or hygro-mechanical couplings, and image processing;
-scientific English proficiency (B2/C1).
